Kindred: Between Two Souls

There is something beautiful about the moment two living beings recognize one another.

A woman meets the gaze of a fox. A hand reaches toward a creature that does not speak our language. Two beings, different in form and experience, share a quiet understanding that needs no words.

Kindred: Between Two Souls explores the relationships between humans and animals, and the invisible bonds that can exist between us. These works are about love, trust, companionship, curiosity, grief, and the feeling of belonging that can exist between two souls—even when those souls belong to different species.

I am drawn to the moments when the boundary between human and animal seems to disappear. When an animal becomes more than something we observe, and instead becomes someone we recognize. Someone capable of feeling, remembering, loving, grieving, and forming bonds just as deeply as we do.

Through these works, I want to challenge the distance we often place between ourselves and the natural world. We may experience life differently, but perhaps the emotions that connect us are not so different after all.

Because sometimes, kinship doesn't come from being the same.

Sometimes, it comes from recognizing something of yourself in another soul.
